The Whackers

The Whackers was the Tuesday night jam host band at the Diamond Lounge.  Jim Peterson, Jim Beiswenger, and myself wanted to have a night that we could stretch out and experiment.  We also wanted to invite other musicians to the party.  Lucky for us, Rick (manager) was all for the idea.  We started up at the beginning of 1997 and within a few months we added Steve “Skull” Traub on congas/aux percussion.  I played with the Whackers until I moved to the Chicago area in August of 1999.  Dave Oakland replaced me and stayed until the party ended in 2007.  Tyler Larson replaced Jim Beiswenger when he passed away suddenly in 2004.

I had more audio of these jams, but I lost a bunch over the years.  I think these two tracks say it all.  Grab a drink and enjoy the joyfully excessive jams.  RIP Skull and Beizy.

I have a lot of fond memories of Whacker Tuesdays at the Diamond. I’m not sure just how many Tuesday’s I played but it was a lot! I started playing there in 1997 until I left in July 1998. I always enjoyed the extended Allman Brothers Jams playing slide guitar, playing Jessica with Skull on the bongos. Great times! Another highlight I always remembered was weinie Wednesday after the jam at the Diamond Shamrock with Skull across from his place – 2 hot dogs for .99 cents!
